How a Non-Technical Founder Helped Build a $250M Amazon Ads Product
I have never written a single line of code.
And yet…
I helped build a product that powers $250M in Amazon Ads spend.
Crazy, right?
I am not a software engineer.
I don’t speak Python or JavaScript.
But I do speak pain points.
Because I have lived them.
Before Hector, I was knee-deep in ad accounts, managing thousands of campaigns, spending millions in media, fighting spreadsheets, dashboards, and deadline anxiety.
Performance up. Chaos down.
That was the game.
So when we started building Hector,
I didn’t bring code.
I brought context.
And turns out, that was my superpower.
Being a non-technical founder in a tech company doesn’t make you less valuable.
It just means you play a different role:
The translator
The empath
The bridge between pain and product
My job became:
Listening to media buyers like me
Spotting inefficiencies most people overlook
Bringing those insights to the tech team
And connecting what’s broken to why it matters
And honestly?
That bridge changed everything.
Because sometimes, the hardest part isn’t building the solution.
It’s understanding the real problem well enough to build the right one.
Today, we have:
Won the Amazon Ads Innovation Award
Won the Amazon Ads Partners Award for Seasonal Sales Strategy
Been named one of Amazon’s Top 20 Advanced Partners globally
And I am still not writing code.
But I am giving product demos even on river drives (true story),
taking feedback calls,
sketching workflows on paper,
and helping our engineers bring it all to life.
That’s my version of product-building.
And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
If you are a non-tech founder, don’t underestimate your value.
You might just be the bridge your product needs.
PS. That's me speaking to a bunch of enthusiastic sellers about our DSP reports :)
